The Fashion Design Collection

Founded in 1966, the fashion design collection is notable for its quality and comprehensiveness. Phoenix Art Museum currently houses more than 5,000 objects of men’s, women’s and children’s dress and accessories dating from the late 17th century to the present. Each object that enters the collection is evaluated on its merit as a work of art - the design, its place in the history of fashion and its condition are all considered. A special collection of current and historical books and magazines related to fashion are part of the Museum’s research library holdings which are open to the public. The Museum organizes three exhibitions a year in the Ellman Fashion Design Gallery featuring objects from the permanent collection as well as international fashion houses, collectors and museums.
